This show sees a special unique location at the marvellously bizarre and interesting Hackney New Empowering Church space, next to London Fields.

Dry the River - DETAILS OF DEBUT ALBUM, LONDON ELECTRIC BALLROOM SHOW & BBC 'SOUND OF 2012' SHORTLYIST ENTRY

Dry the River have announced details of the release of a debut album. Shallow Bed will be released through RCA Victor on Monday March 5th 2011. The 11-track album was produced by Peter Katis (The National / Interpol) at his Connecticut home-studio during the summer of 2011. "We were looking for someone who could strike a balance between lo-fi and hi-fi," says Peter Liddle, Dry the River's lead singer. "We wanted to record the bulk of it to tape, to use analogue stuff in favour of computer wizardry where possible, but without it sounding like an old folk record. I think we tried to preserve the fragility and honesty of the more stripped down tracks, but still get the intensity of the live show across too - to marry those two aspects of our music without it sounding incongruous." The tracklisting of the album is as follows: 1. Animal Skins2. New Ceremony3. Shield Your Eyes4. History Book5. The Chambers & The Valves6. Demons7. Bible Belt8. No Rest9. Shaker Hymns10. Weights & Measure11. Lion's Den The album can be pre-ordered via the following links: HMV
Play
Amazon
itunes
Dry the River will be releasing a single from the album, The Chambers & Valves, on Monday February 27th. They have also announced details of a London headline show, their biggest to date, at the Electric Ballroom on Wednesday May 2nd 2012. Tickets for the show are priced at £10 and are available from 9am Wednesday 9th December. Tickets are available here. This show follows a recent run of headline dates which culminated in a sold-out performance at London's Scala. The band also supported Bombay Bicyle Club on their U.K. tour and this summer saw them play some rapturously received festival gigs on both sides of the Atlantic, highlights being their shows at SxSW in Texas, Reading, Glastonbury and most recently End of the Road and Bestival. The band have additionally been announced to play a Q Now Session at XOYO in London on January 23rd 2012. Tickets for the session are priced at £10 and available here
Finally, the band have been confirmed as being one of 15 artists on the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012 shortlist. The top 5 will be announced in January 2012. Dry the River formed in spring 2009 and have lived together in the same shared house in Stratford east London since. Citing an esoteric list of influences - Leonard Cohen, At The Drive-In, Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bruce Springsteen and Devendra Banhart - the band draw as much from their shared love of U.S. hardcore as they do from the classic songwriters they all admire. www.drytheriver.net

Transgressive News - THE ANTLERS & DRY THE RIVER ANNOUNCED FOR SPOTIFY LIVE #3 7TH DECEMBER

Three organizations all committed to promoting the best in music past and current - Spotify, The Guardian and Rockfeedback Concerts - have come together again to co-present the third in a series of Spotify Live gigs, all taking place at a venue widely acknowledged to be one of the best new spaces for the London music scene, The Lexington in Islington.
The third of four special launch events taking place before Christmas, Spotify Live London's next gig takes place on Wednesday 7th December, and sees a great pairing of two acts who have had a spectacular 2011 - THE ANTLERS and DRY THE RIVER.
With this year's superb Burst Apart album riding high in many end of year charts (including a #1 slot from The Fly), The Antlers are truly one of the most deserved success stories of the past 12 months. Building on the cult success of their 2009 record Hospice, the Brooklyn-based trio made a leap in to the big leagues without losing any of their vitality or credibility. Burst Apart is an album as beautiful as it is brutal, and after a tour of the UK that saw them sell out London's KOKO just a few weeks back, this gig marks an opportunity to experience its power in unusually close quarters.
Bands claiming to be as equally influenced by post-rock as they are pastoral folk with multi-part vocal harmonies don't come around that often, but Dry The River manage to combine the dynamics of the former with the infectious, festival-sized choruses of the latter to startling effect. A slew of rapturously received singles and EPs has seen anticipation for their debut record, due for release in 2012, rocket, but it's their powerful live show on which they rightly pride themselves.
Tickets for the show are free and can be obtained by RSVP lists and competitions hosted by each of the partners. Those wishing to gain access can win tickets at the Guardian and Rockfeedback websites, whilst Spotify Premium Account holders are also able to RSVP to spotifylive@rockfeedback.com to win entry, and claim a free drink on the night.
In addition to this, a strictly limited allocation of entry will be made available for those wishing to try their luck on the night on a first-come first-served basis, allowing those who missed out earlier the chance to still potentially attend.
Competitions open today (Friday 2nd Dec), and all successful applicants will receive a confirmation email on Tuesday (6th Dec) morning if successful in their bid to win entry. All competitions close on Monday (5th Dec) at midnight.
Performances at each show will also be captured on film and will be available up on the Guardian, Spotify and Rockfeedback websites and social media after each gig, featuring exclusive interviews with each of the acts performing.

"Winter has bestowed itself upon us and once again the weatherman warns us that we will soon be brushing snow flakes from our faces. We have returned from texas with dirty boots, a family member heavier (a beautiful young lady by the name of odessa) and a quiver of new songs. Admittedly less than we went out with (such are the worlds' ways) but damn me if they aren't some of our favorite yet.Which brings me to how exited I am to announce a concert where you will be able to come and hear each one as well as those preceding them that led us here. Join us on Friday 18th May, 2012 as we roll up our sleeves, pull the cactus needles from our butts and play the biggest hometown jets show yet at Brixton academy. Its been a long old while london, and I for one cannot wait.xxBlaine"

The Antlers - NO WIDOWS SINGLE AND 8 TRACK BONUS DISC

The Antlers 'No Widows' single released on January 2nd
The Antlers, by any account, have had an extraordinary 2011 - releasing one of the most phenomenal records of the year in the form of "Burst Apart", garnering critical plaudits from both sides of the pond (everyone from Pitchfork and New York Times to Guardian Film and Music and The Fly), playing sold out shows in the US, Europe and UK, and even scoring their first television appearance on Jay Leno in the summer, followed by another high-profile appearance on Jimmy Fallon.
Now, as a victory lap to a triumphant year, the band are releasing another single, the haunting, mesmerising "No Widows", off "Burst Apart", as well as giving away a hefty 8-track bonus disc of previously unreleased remixes, collaborations and covers called (together) with the record from mid-November.
Lush, nuanced and uncommonly moving, seamlessly integrating breathtaking melodies with dynamic orchestrations, "No Widows" showcases The Antlers aesthetic in miniature, and is haunting without being maudlin, electronic while still indelibly human.
The bonus disc (together) meanwhile, collects together remixes, alternate versions, unreleased tracks, covers and live studio recordings together in one very special, carefully curated package. Despite the looseness in the feeling of the record however, it is anything but B-side material and is, more than anything, an enduring testament to the friendships forged and the individuals involved in The Antlers over the past two years, and how they have contributed to the evolution of the Antlers as a band over the past few years.
To that end, (together) showcases The Antlers at their most fluid and collaborative - aside from working with friends such as Neon Indian, Bear In Heaven and Nicole Atkins on reworkings of their own tracks, the band themselves have experimented within their own ranks - "Tongue Tied" is the first Antlers song written and sung by keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Darby Cicci, "I Don't Want Love (Peter's version)" is the first Antlers song singer/guitarist Peter Silberman recorded on his own, and "French Exit (SNRF version)" is built out of a demo Silberman found and finished while the band were on tour. As Silberman himself puts it, "In a way, (together) is almost The Antlers as a collective, which in all honesty, is how I initially intended the band when I began it myself...it's a long running series of experiments in doing things differently".
Make sure, too, that you catch The Antlers when they head over to the UK in November. Their dates begin with a sold out show for the Fly at the Borderline on November 6, but takes in another London date at Koko, before winding up in Ireland on November 18.

Cold Specks is 23-year-old Al Spx from Etobicoke, Canada, who now lives in London. Describing her sound as ‘Doom Soul', Cold Specks' music is steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South. No wonder then that Al cites the Lomax Field Recordings and James Carr as influences along with Bill Callahan and Tom Waits. With a voice that evokes the ‘spirit feel' of Mahalia Jackson and the visceral tones of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Cold Specks' sparse arrangements and chaingang rhythms stop you dead in your tracks.
"My little brother, who was spending his summers with our mother in Toronto, had always told me of this girl he was friends with that had this amazing voice," recalls Cold Specks' manager, Jim Anderson. "As a producer I'd heard that so often that I didn't take too much notice. Then I came in one night to find him and a few friends drinking in the flat and playing a CD of her demos. I was completely transfixed and just kept pressing repeat. I knew I had to work with her. I eventually persuaded her to come over. At that point she had never played with another musician and was completely self-taught with her own unique tuning and timings, which we had to decipher."
"Jim convinced me to fly out and work on the record for a few months," explains Al Spx. "That was a year and a half ago. I guess I'm permanently based here now. I didn't know anyone when I moved here. We needed musicians and Jim knew a bunch. Producer Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi) has been helping out with some arrangements and percussion and Jim's old friends Pete Roberts (guitar), Thomas Greene (piano) and Tom Havelock (cello) also play on the record. It's almost finished. We're off to Monnow Valley this month to complete it."

Neon Indian - Heaven Show Announced

@ Heaven, 9 The Arches Villiers Street, London, WC2N 6NGWednesday 16th November, 7pm
Further Info:
Neon Indian is the work of Alan Palomo, a young synth-wizard who first created waves as VEGA. After writing a batch of off-the-cuff recordings that weren't quite right as VEGA songs, Palomo released them as Neon Indian and what started as a careless outlet for ideas too offbeat to fit the VEGA mold has since gone on to pioneer a genre with the likes of Washed Out and Toro Y Moi all turning people onto their blissed out electronic sounds of the summer. Neon Indian's sound is as Palomo describes it, "Childhood re-contextualized through a psychedelic, lo-fi filter. The idea of memory before you were old enough to have memories." Psychic Chasms intentionally captures the sound of records stored in sunlight and played to the breaking point.

Gaggle - THE BRILLIANT AND THE DARK

Announce they will take their The Brilliant and the Darkperformance to the Royal Albert Hall• Support from The Sound of Rum and Huw Stephens (DJ set)• Women can be part of this special performance
Gaggle have announced they will take their reworking of The Brilliant and The Dark back toits original home at the Royal Albert Hall in September. Having previously performed it atThe Royal Festival Hall, ICA and Women's Library they now come to the Elgar Room at theRoyal Albert Hall, over 40 years after the original was performed there.
With support from The Sound of Rum (live) + Huw Stephens (DJ set)
Wednesday 28th SeptemberThe Elgar Room, Royal Albert Hall
Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AP8pm / £8.50
For tickets: www.royalalberthall.com / 020 7589 8212
In 2010, Gaggle were invited by artists Eileen Simpson and Ben White to re-interpret a 1969cantata for women's voices. The radically remixed cantata uses elements from "The Brilliantand the Dark", a work for women's voices composed by Malcolm Williamson and UrsulaVaughan Williams, and first performed by 1,000 women volunteers at the Royal Albert Hall.
The 1969 libretto approaches history from the Middle Ages to WWII through the eyes ofwomen, via characters including witch-hunters, embroiderers, crusaders' wives, plaguestricken women, mourners and war workers.
Under the leadership of Deborah Coughlin, the new work remixes melodies and lyrics of theoriginal work alongside the contemporary chants of Gaggle, referencing current issues suchas militarized rape in the DRC or "honour" killings in the UK.
Simpson and White say: "Deborah Coughlin has generated an epic new work, haunted bythe original, that manages to carefully weave the past with the present - offering a blindingnew vision of what a performance by a women's choir looks like in 21st century".
Mark Pearse, Programming Executive at the Royal Albert Hall, said: ‘We are delighted towelcome Gaggle to the Elgar Room and excited to be bringing a piece of the Hall's historyback to life in a contemporary format with this truly unique show'.
Gaggle plan to mark this momentous occasion with special guests appearing at theperformance in September. The Sound of Rum will be playing live - their debut album onSunday Best was released earlier this year and presents vocalist Kate Tempest as one ofthe most talented and unique poets in the UK, Huw Stephens will also be spinning tunes onthe decks to complete the lineup.
Gaggle are giving women a chance to join a Gaggle backing choir for this one off specialoccasion. All ages welcome but places are limited, applicants need to be confident on stageand available on Sept 17th and 24th for rehearsals and for the performance on the 28th.Please email joingaggle@gmail.com

Transgressive News - Debut paradYse release announced

Pre-order the 7" HERE
'A Mountain We Love' is the sort of addictive yet emotive electronic guitar pop that will soundtrack summers, with chiming guitars, infectious percussive samples and sumptuously restrained vocals from twin brother frontmen Miles and Marcus Haughton. 'Wax', meanwhile, is epic balladry of the most subtle order - within 20 seconds, one of the choruses of the year ensnares the listener and immediately affirms Theme Park's position as one of the most exciting new songwriting forces in our midst today, managing to attain that rare balance of feeling comfortingly familiar and yet not sounding like anyone else.
The band's first - and only currently scheduled - live performance will be a single launch party to support the release, occurring at London's Lexington venue on Wednesday August 31st. For entry to the show tickets will be solely on a reserve basis by emailing names for the paradYse guestlist to events@rockfeedback.com, ensuring £5 entry. Please make sure to put the word paradYse in the subject line.
Theme Park comprise the aforementioned Haughtons, who share singing and guitar duties, as well as third guitarist Oscar Manthorpe and Louis Bhose on bass.

We at Transgressive are sick of a moaning industry paralyzed by lack of money, fearful of supporting the most important new artists in the country.
We have launched a new imprint : paradYse to frivolously endorse the genius sounds of new artists with limited runs of 7"s, digital accessibility and Martinis.
The debut 7" is available to pre-order now. It is from an important new band called Theme Park.

Gaggle - The Brilliant and The Dark

The Brilliant and the Dark is a limited edition 300 copy 12" to be releasedRecord Store Day documenting a live performance at the ICA on 2nd Dec 2010 in which Gaggle were invited by artists Eileen Simpson and Ben Whitetore-interpret a 1969 cantata for women's voices.
The radically remixed cantata uses elements from "The Brilliant and theDark", a work for women's voices composed by Malcolm Williamsonand Ursula Vaughan Williams, and first performed by 1,000 womenvolunteers at the Royal Albert Hall.
The libretto approaches history from the Middle Ages to WWIIthrough the eyes of women, via characters including witch-hunters,embroiderers, crusaders' wives, plague stricken women, mourners andwar workers, transposed into a modern light by Gaggle including issuessuch as the importance of Suffrage or International Women's Day, andreferencing issues such as militarized rape in the DRC.
The Brilliant and the Dark is released under a copyleft license -generating a new resource available for the future reflected by the B-side of the 12" containing samples from the performance for futureartists to manipulate as they see fit.
A video representing an element of the performance commissioned bySimpson & White, made by a team headed by Daniel Wolfe is here:
Costumes reworked from original designs by Design duo SCHWANGE.
The performance at the ICA was sponsored by the Arts Council.

Johnny Flynn - 'The Heretic' Play + One-Off London Show in March...

As of February 4th, Johnny commenced an acting role at the Royal Court Theatre in 'The Heretic' - a new play by Richard Bean. Buy tickets for the performance here
And finally...
A live update.
Johnny Flynn and The Sussex Wit will be appearing at numerous UK and European festivals this summer, with a further full band US tour to precede in May/June. Full live details are to be unveiled in the next fortnight.
However, before that, a very special, one-off solo performance will occur at The Luminaire to commemorate the London venue's last week in business. The set-to-close, 300-capacity Luminaire in Kilburn was the original site of several early Johnny Flynn performances, and in order to give it a fitting send-off during its 'wake week', Johnny will be performing his smallest headline appearance in over a year.
Details are as follows:
SUN MARCH 6TH - London Kilburn Luminaire (solo performance - £12.50; tickets available exclusively here)

Transgressive News - 2010 Transgressive stage at Leeds Festival - Lineup announced!

2010 marks the fourth year of label/promoters/publishers/managers Transgressive's presence at Leeds Festival.

The format is the same each year -
audio-visual treats and the best new emerging acts performing intimate shows on the closing night of the festival,
from a mixture of Transgressive acts and our friends...
We're trying to make it a proper closing night hurrah for those that still have the will and spirit to party very, very hard,
carrying long into the night after the headliners have finished on the other stages.

Prior acts to have graced our stage in recent years include Leeds' own
hometown heroes Pulled Apart by Horses, Two Door Cinema Club, Future of the Left,
Young Knives, Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling, and many more besides.

This time, however, we reckon we've got our best line-up yet -
the evening is headlined by an exclusive, centrepiece performance from Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit,
with other acts including manic electronic duo Chew Lips, youthful wizard pop from Egyptian Hip Hop,
uplifting soulful pop gems courtesy of Slow Club, and, of course, a 22-piece-all-girl-dubstep-pop-choir in Gaggle.

In between all the live action, Transgressive and Rockfeedback DJs will play big and cool tunes in equal measure,
whilst we welcome back both Two Door Cinema Club and Pulled Apart by Horses this year to take part in a 'versus' dual on the decks.
Who the hell will win? Stay up late with us and find out.

Pulled Apart by Horses - Limited Edition Live LP for Record Store Day

From jumping off PAs at Brixton in support of Biffy Clyro and Glassjaw, to destroying Europe with Blood Red Shoes and literally bleeding to the point of near death on both their solo tours and Reading/Leeds performances (to the point of actual hospitalisation) PABH as the shorthand reads are an awesome experience for fans of Mudhoney, Queens of the Stone Age and the Butthole Surfers, bringing together a cavalier approach to songwriting with lyrics covering gypsy ghost trains to Zelda-quoting explosions of colour.
Following on from the success of the first Foals release on Transgressive, a highly collectable limited edition live 12" we are celebrating this glorious union with a Live set from Pulled Apart By Horses exclusively for Record Store Day of only 500 copies.
The set, recorded at the band's spiritual home The Packhorse in Leeds, will be entitled "Live At Leeds" and in homage to the Who classic will feature an exclusive photo (one of five per record), set list and be hand stamped by the band.
The set goes some way to capturing their chaotic live approach and features such fan favourites as "E=MC Hammer" and "I Punched a Lion in the Throat".
*a handful* of pre-orders are up on www.transgressive.co.uk

Transgressive News - Transgressive at HMV's Next Big Thing Festival - February 2010 - Win Tickets!

- Transgressive Night 1 features Johnny Flynn (solo), with support from Mechanical Bride, occurring at Barfly on February 10th.
- Transgressive Night 2 features Mystery Jets, Two Door Cinema Club + one other act TBA, also occurring at Barfly, on February 14th (a quality way to spend your Valentine's Day, we feel...).
All acts will be debuting brand-new material from releases that they'll have out later this year (In case you're wondering why the Jets and Two Door are on there - it's because they're part of the Transgressive Publishing family and roster!).
Since tickets are no longer available, we thought we'd offer a little competition to Transgressive online fans... We'll be giving away a pair of tickets to each night - to enter, all you need to do is tell us the answer to this following question:
What are the names of the two bands that Transgressive is releasing in March to kick off our 2010 release schedule?
To enter the contest, please email transgressivehmvcomp@gmail.com with your answer, contact number and full name.
Hopefully see you down there!

So So Modern - Crude Futures - Debut LP available to Pre-Order NOW and Tour Dates....

Crude Futures is released digitally on March 1st on Transgressive Records across Europe and available to Pre-Order on CD and strictly limited edition (300) 12" here, also as a bundle with their previous compilation album for only £15 (inc p+p).

Crude Futures' was recorded in New Zealand when the band took an eight month break from their relentless touring schedule. It coincides with a major exhibition (also titled ‘Crude Futures') by New Zealand documentary photographer John Lake which explores the burden of optimism in a constantly ‘apocalyptic' reality. The album also marks So So Modern's most complete body of work and represents a new era for the four-piece.
Formed in 2004, they have thoroughly acquainted themselves with the basement venues and clubs of the world. They have tirelessly toured throughout the USA, Europe and Australasia, leaving their audiences with lasting memories of their explosive and noisy live show.
With a maniacal sense of spontaneity, live is where the band really shine. So So Modern will return to the UK for an unrelenting assault on the live scene in January.
Upcoming UK live dates:28th January - Freebutt, Brighton29th January - The Lexington, London20th February - The Deaf Institute, Manchester21st February - Brudenell Social Club, Leeds22nd February - Harley, Sheffield23rd February -Head of Steam, Newcastle24th February - Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh 25th February - Captain's Rest, Glasgow1st March - Moles, Bristol2nd March - Jericho Tavern, Oxford (with Errors)4th March - Scala, London (with Errors)

Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History - Debut album out soon....

This spine-tingling genius collection of 3-minute pop masterpieces should help make anyone's year.
Here's the crack:
The album is undeniably pop, but draws on disparate elements including electronica/electro, rock and Afro-beats whilst remaining resolutely fresh and inventive. Pigeon-holing this band will be impossible. Formed at the age of 15, the band now say "We were playing music that we weren't enjoying, so we said ‘let's write some songs, without any pretence of what they'll sound like'. That's why we find it so hard now if people now ask us what genre we are."
The only constant between songs is the length of them - short! - redefining short, sharp and sweet. The songs average out at a pop-perfect 3 mins. Says Kev, "We've never seen the point of adding something on to make the song longer. Or to cram in lots of songs. We just wanted a really impressive first album, where every song could be someone's favourite."
Two Door Cinema Club will be touring their new album extensively through 2010, starting with a sold out UK tour and have just added 2 NME Awards Shows with The Maccabees plus a support tour with Phoenix.
Having already accumulated nearly a million listens online and being signed to one of the coolest indie labels around , the tour and debut album are sure to propel Two Door Cinema Club firmly into your consciousness. Watch them go....
Tracklisting as follows -
"Tourist History"
1. Cigarettes In The Theatre

Liam Finn - Liam Finn + Eliza Jane : Champagne In Seashells : New EP....

Liam Finn says that his new EP, /Champagne in Seashells/, is a "documentof a small moment in time." He's modestly referring to the busy twoyears since the release of his critically acclaimed debut album, /I'llBe Lightning/, and the nearly uninterrupted schedule of touring that hastaken him around the world multiple times. Having played his own sold-out shows on every continent, opened for theThe Black Keys and Eddie Vedder, and performed at the All Tomorrow'sParties festival, Liam is set to release a new EP world-wide this September.
Recorded in April at Roundhead studios in Auckland New Zealand on thesame analogue equipment that captured I'll Be Lightning, Champagne inSeashells is bigger and bolder, revealing new lyrical complexities andpointing in daring new musical directions. It also marks the debutstudio collaboration between Liam and live cohort Eliza-Jane. The selfproduced EP was mixed by legendary sonic wiz Tchad Blake (Tom Waits).
Lead single "Long Way To Go" encapsulates the magical dynamic of LiamAnd E-J's chaotic live show whilst tackling the anxieties of air travel, life on the road and homesickness.

Esser - Win JD set tickets+Don Letts Duet// Esser Secret Notion Party // April Tour....

Phew!
3 things must ye know about Esser's stonkingly good live show:
1. This Thursday he'll be playing the Luminare as part of the JD set. Joined onstage for a duet with the legendary Don Letts... You can win tickets from his myspace www.myspace.com/esserhq and click on the blog!
2. This Friday, in celebration of Esser being on the front cover of Notion magazine, they're putting on a secret flashmob party somewhere in the East End. We're not telling where - but it's ACE. And there'll be the opportunity to get your hair cut in the style of the man himself, before watching what promises to be a classic Esser performance. Tickets can only be won by txting "Launch" to Notion on 88101 (apparently this costs £1.50) then they'll text you back the secret location and password on the day!
3. As if this wasn't enough, Esser will be embarking on his debut headline tour this April... Dates and tickets are on his myspace www.myspace.com/esserhq or direct HERE.
See you down the front!

Transgressive News - GRAHAM COXON SIGNS TO TRANSGRESSIVE RECORDS

Graham Coxon releases his brand new album “The Spinning Top” on Transgressive Records on May 11.
The album was recorded in London in Spring 2008 and features musical contributions from Robyn Hitchcock and Danny Thompson, amongst others. It was produced by Stephen Street.
“The Spinning Top” features 15 brand new tracks and marks something of a departure in sound and feel from previous Graham Coxon solo work. It is also unusual in that the songs follow a narrative – nothing less than the story of a man from birth to death!
Graham says: “The album is mainly an acoustic journey although there is, of course, some explosive electric guitar action. I wanted to show how exciting acoustic instruments can be, how dynamic and rich and heart-thumpingly raw they can sound at a time when acoustic music seems either too cute or too soppy. Obvious influences here are the amazing Martin Carthy, the late, great Davey Graham and the late, great John Martyn”.
“There are some guests too! Robyn Hitchcock supplies some counter-attack guitar, Jas Singh plays dilruba and jori with his friends Gurjit Sembhi on taus and Jaskase Singh on esraj. Danny Thompson plays the legendary Victoria, Graham Fox gives plenty of swing on the drums and sizzle cymbals and Louis Vause tinkles the ivories”.
“My friend Lucy supplies the voice of the wife and Natasha marsh channels the voice of the Medea-like enchantress”.

Dan Michaelson and the Coastguards - Dan Michaelson and The Coastguards

Produced with Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bonnie Prince Billy, Bjork) the record is a stunning work of barratone beauty. The press are raving (as the Times said in their lead review today...) And, as Transgressive Publishing, we're very proud of it.
Why not pre-order the record HERE
And if you still need convincing, here are some persuasive quotes:
"your ears naturally tune into Michaelson's skill at putting words to theparts of relationships that usually stay silent. The cruel asymmetry ofromance is addressed exquisitely, recalling the resigned grandeur of theGo-Betweens' Robert Forster " **** The Times"impressive - comes on like Smog fronting the songs of Ed Harcourt" Uncut"an intensely felt and sparsely drawn study of the beginnings and ends ofrelationships" **** Time Out"a set of frighteningly good songs **** The Stool Pigeon"a voice deeper and darker than most extended overdrafts - Michaelson is onendearingly poetic form" NME"an outstanding collection of quirky and bare to the bones songs" 8/10Rocksound"
Still need convincing?

What constitutes a record? I mean, does a little plastic disk have any relevance to the astounding aural cacophony you experience when it's played? Nope of course not. But as you know, at Transgressive we've always been about enhancing the experience of our acts music with amazing packaging. Be it the insane cover of the Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man opus, or even the denim covered 7" we put out for Jeremy Warmsley's Dirty Blue Jeans, we've always been about pushing the boundaries and giving you something really special and collectable to enjoy with our life changing sounds. And so now, we're proud to announce the debut release from Esser on Transgressive:
The Headlock T-shirt.
Headlock, an astoundingly fresh slice of good clean fun, that will instantly be one of those songs that you feel you've known your entire life, is coming out on a very special EP in the form of the coolest looking t-shirt we've seen since Madonna got in that punch up. The catalogue number is TRANS082, the T-shirts in 3 sizes, and each individual one has a code through which you can download the EP:
1. Headlock2. Baby It's A Boring3. Headlock 12" version
